There's a TON of soundbites, and they're very accurately recorded for each specific cymbal, for the actual one you would buy. I bought an Istanbul signature agop from this place, based on the sound of joe correro's ride on an al jarreau album. Really dark!
I've got the 20" version and my old drum teacher has the 22" one. I like his a lot better. I tried to use mine on an alt-country gig, but I also use the bell quite a bit & this one just didn't cut through. I recently bought a used 21" Sabian raw bell HHX model that I love for that gig. It is thin enough to be washing (I love that) and has a great bell! It doesn't work for my rock gig, but I've got a Zildjian 20" A Medium Ride for that.

Oh and funny you mention the Jo Jo Mayer ride, cause I was going to buy one a long time ago when they came out... never got around to it... seemed a little to thin and washy... kinda like my current Evolution ride (quite thin, oddly enough).

The Special IS thicker, with a decent bell, it's just that because the Dry Light is less versitle (and therefore pretty much (IMO) a jazz/acoustic cymbal) I'd like it to be thinner...

Rudy, man, you just made my day. I haven't heard anybody mention Joe Correro in a dog's age. He appears on two Al Jarreau albums, both on CD, that I know about. If I want to feel good, I listen to those albums. His drum sound (half bop/jazz with what seems to be tightly tuned 16" floor tom), his feel (sort of Gadd like), and his gorgeous cymbal sound...are they large, thin Ks or are they large, darker As?
I Googled Joe Correro once and found out some trivia but I know very little about him. Is he still playing? Do you know what kind of kit he used (no drummer jokes please; it's an honest question!). All I know is that he last recorded with Al Jarreau over twenty years ago and he may have been a member of Paul Revere & The Raiders. Whowouldathunkit?

wow, you made my day too! Talking about joe is to me as important as talking about vinnie or weckl, because joe is a monster, monster player! And I'm saying this only having ever heard him play on one album, which is 'look to the rainbow'. Now you got me excited. There's another album he played on with jarreau?? Which one and is it live? Man, the way he plays on the song 'one good turn' from 'look to the rainbow' is outstanding, some fantastic tasteful chops going on, and it's influenced my way of thinking and playing in no small way. That album is a timeless and marvellous suite of music, I adore it. There isn't a bad song on it and the drumming is effortless throughout. No other drummer, IMO, could have done a better job. There was a guy I met on cymbalholics.com who knew joe and said he'd ask him about his ride. This was earlier this year, and tbh, I can't remember what he said now, but I think it was old K's. So anyway, I sent a clip of joe playing that really dark ride,( I think he uses about 2 rides, but it's the really trashy and dark one mostly used on the 'take 5' track), to the guy who owns cymbalsonly.com, and he wrote back saying 'oh that's easy, this Istanbul agop sig is almost identical'.And he was right, and I bought it.
